Aloe hybrid 'Krakatoa' is a striking, compact succulent famous for its fiery, multi-coloured foliage and highly textured leaves. Originally bred and selected in cultivation from specialized succulent nurseries in California, this hybrid forms dense, upright rosettes of sword-shaped leaves with raised bumps and heavily serrated margins. The foliage shifts from a mottled green to vibrant shades of coral, pink, and intense orange-red when the plant is grown in bright sunlight. In the spring, it sends up tall flower spikes topped with vivid orange-to-red tubular blossoms
Caring for this hardy succulent requires minimal effort if its basic lighting and watering needs are met. It thrives in bright, indirect light indoors or full sun outdoors, which is essential for bringing out its signature volcanic coloration. Plant it in a porous, fast-draining cactus or succulent soil mix using a container with functional drainage holes. Use the "soak and dry" method by watering the soil thoroughly only when it has completely dried out, and drastically reduce watering during the cooler winter dormancy period to prevent root rot.
