Although widely used as an alternate name for the Philodendron spiritus sancti, this species is not a synonym for that incredibly rare (critically endangered in the wild) plant. The Philodendron santa leopoldina sold here is a species that is believed to be from the same region, Espírito Santo, Brazil, where the P. spiritus sancti is found. It has also been hypothesized that this could be an undescribed cultivar or variety of the P. atabapoense.

Despite the true origin of this plant being unknown, or simply a case of misidentification, this climbing plant truly is stunning in its own right with long, slender leaves with tiny lobes (while juvenile) on long petioles.
